The Most Famous Engineers

     

   Although there are many famous engineer in history, there are some very useful invention and insight. From the repair engineering students to improve the old design, the engineers found that the comprehensive legal, affect our scientific world view, here is the most famous engineers of the 20:

Women in Engineering

In 1927, at the Solvay Conference on Physics the only woman in attendance was Marie Curie. In 1960, less than 1% of recorded engineers were women. Throughout 1971-72, 17% polled Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) majors were women. In 2014 women only held 25% of STEM jobs. In 2015, l begin my Electrical Engineering major at MSU and l always wonder where are all my ladies at so that together help rectify the gender imbalance in Engineering.

A lot of researches have been conducted as to why there are few women in engineering. Most of these researches had common outcomes. The reasons included many girls were raised in societies where science, engineering and mathematical jobs are largely male professions. The media has also gone an extra mile in perpetuating the idea that scientists are males by giving little representation of prominent female engineers. Due to the preexisting gender stereotypes women feel demotivated to strive in the engineering field. Whatever the reason, society has accepted that it is a huge problem that needs a solution.

In 1950 Elsie Eaves established the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) so as to inform female students about opportunities in the engineering field and encourage them to achieve higher. This opened avenues for other professional bodies linking women practicing engineers to other female mentors so that they can get role models. More and more the media has been representing women in engineering .I am convinced that untiring efforts being invested by different bodies will see the gender ratio in STEM taking a good turn.

Being a first generation and first ever engineering major in my family , l believe there is power for women to turn the tables. To all my ladies out there, let nothing hold you back and chase your dreams.

Where the future will take place?

As an engineer, jobs are available all across the world. They are needed in every country and at a high demand so finding a good engineering job around a place you might want to live is definitely a possibility. I have an uncle that lives in California and he is an engineering graduate from Michigan State University. He was telling me the story about how he got his first jobs and he said that the Los Angeles Airport came up to him and his three friends all graduated and offered them each a good salary and a $25,000 signing bonus to fly out to LA and start working. They were in need of new engineers so they told him he had a day to talk about it with his family and that if he agreed he would be going in less than a month. Although it sounds perfect, it was a lot to think about and he had to weigh the positives and the negatives before he made his final decision. It was an offer that almost every college kid dreams of so after he talked it over with his family, he was off to Los Angles and he has never looked back. That was about 30 years ago and currently he is happily married with three children living in downtown Los Angeles. He is still working for the airport and is currently moving higher up the line of work. Now obviously this is not the case with everyone but it definitely gives me hope for my future. I hope that some day I will be half as fortunate as him and get to move to a beautiful city to do something that I love.
