Evolving Footsteps

Over the years, millions of different shoes have been made. Whether they are basketball shoes, running shoes, or boat shoes, new styles are constantly being made. Although these new styles have many features appealing to the eye, many of the new styles are becoming advanced with things not every consumer notices. For example, a couple of years ago, reebok came out with a new shoe that had an abnormal sole.
Yes, it clear to see that the bottom of this shoe is different and that it attracts the eye of others but what does this new sole tell about the comfort of the shoe? Studies show that with this new design, the shoe is easier on consumers feet and causes less impact between the ground and the buyers feet. Many consumers would just buy these because they are popular and they are in style without having any idea it feels different on the foot. Hours of engineering are going into shoes and along with our society, they are evolving. A new shoe coming out in 2016 is the nike power lace. These shoes not only look stylish but also do not need to be tied. After you put the shoes on, the shoe automatically laces up by itself without needing any assistance from the owner.

This blog shows that engineering goes into multiple things and it is not what everyone thinks. Almost everything in the world needs engineering so it is misleading that many people think engineering strictly deals with complex machinery and materials. Overall, this shows that certain engineering goes into different fields and that it is applied in many different ways.

  1. This was an interesting post to read! You don't think about everything that goes into designing basic items such as shoes, and you never would think an engineer would be involved. That was a good way to eliminate stereotypes in the engineering field.

  2. Great post Dominic,
This was a very interesting post. Whenever I think of engineering I do think of buildings, and cars and much more "engineering" type things. I never really put much thought into the engineering of shoes. It seems like a fairly simple section of engineering compared to the likes of chemical engineering and building cars and such. It leads me to wonder about the engineering of other simple things such as Nike Shirts, or shorts and how much engineering goes into them too. Thanks, great post.
